Nanomaterials for high efficiency and low cost Cu(In, Ga)Se2 thin film solar cells

Abstract

The purpose is to develop a novel technology utilizing nanosized precursors for the production of low cost, high efficiency and stable thin film solar cells of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (called CIGS). The unique functionality and properties of the nano-sized particles will be exploited to grow 1-3 microns thick CIGS layers having 1-2 micron sized grains. Different nano-sized precursors will be evaluated and thin layers of compact grains and good opto-electronic properties will be obtained after the selenization treatment. Solar cells on glass substrates will be developed. The advantage is low cost processing and better utilization of the resource materials.
