5904.1:
Removal of trace contaminants with TiO2-photocatalyst immobilized on different substrates
Abstract
The high water consumption in microelectronic industry necessitates the recycling of waste water. Traces of isopropanol or N-methyl-pyrrolydon can hardly be removed from water by sorption, ion exchange or reverse osmosis. EPFL showed that it is possible to remove them by photocatalysis and have successfully immobilized nanocrystalline photocatalysts on substrates to avoid the catalyst filtration step. This makes the simple photocatalytic process cost-effective and interesting for industrial water treatment. The aim of the project is to adapt this process to specialized industrial applications.
