Probes for Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscopy (NFO Probes)
Abstract
This project deals with the development of microfabricated near-field optical (NFO) probe structures. The feasibility of the concept was shown by the proposers by demonstrating an unprecedented spatial resolution of 32nm (APL 77 3695 (2000)). The concept of cantilevered microfabricated probes allows ease of use and broad applicability. This development is broadly expected to lead to a breakthrough for SNOM. Project partners are the experienced institutions CSEM and IMT of U Neuchâtel, and the leading companies NanoWorld (probes) and WITec (instruments).
