4643.1:
Nanoindentation measurements method for the fracture toughness of nanocomposite materials
Abstract
The objective of the project is to develop an experimental method based on depth sensing nanoindentation measurements for determination of the fracture toughness, interfacial fracture energy, and critical elongation of nanolayers. The method will be used for two different classes of materials including organic functional nanolayers on polymer packaging materials in food industry, and nanolaminated and nanodispersed hard coatings for tools and rolling elements. The project will provide a reliable method for the nandestructive measurements of the most important nanoscale mechanical properties.
