Study of novel flame retardant systems for plain textiles
Abstract
The objective is the development of a novel nanotechnology-based non-toxic flame retardant coating system for textiles. Nanoparticle flame retardant systems have shown a high potential for bulk polymers: Nanomaterials concentrated at the polymer surface transform into flame-retardant glassy or char protection layers under the influence of fire. Similar systems have so far not been described for lightweight textiles. This research will enable the development of novel flame retardant textile products as alternatives to current state-of-the-art materials which contain environmentally-hazardous halogens and antimony.
