Numerical Simulation of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser Diodes (VCSELs)


Abstract

The goal of the project is to develop a software tool for the simulation of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) devices. The model employed comprises all relevant effects (wave optics, classical semiconductor physics and quantum mechanics) and their interaction as to allow a realistic (fully three-dimensional, static and transient), self-consistent simulation of VCSEL device characteristics and internal quantities of the VCSEL device. The simulator is assessed with measured data of benchmark VCSEL devices, obtained from a pilot user group.
