4603.2:
Nanoscale cavity length for multiple wavelength vertical cavity laser arrays emitting in the 1.5 micrometer waveband

Abstract

Multiple wavelength vertical cavity laser arrays emitting in the 1.5 micrometer waveband have the potential to fill in an important niche in fiber optic communication systems providing a low cost alternative to distributed feedback (DFB) edge emitting laser sources. These new devices are expected to boost the deployment of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technique to local fiber optic networks allowing to cope with ever growing traffic of information.
The aim of this project is to demonstrate that 1.5 micrometer VCSEL arrays can present an alternative to multiple wavelength DFB edge emitting multiple wavelength arrays for applications in metropolitan and local fiber optic networks.
