Marketing Module for functionalized cantilevers for analyte detection, biological and proteomics applications
Abstract
Microfabricated silicon cantilevers have attracted considerable scientific interest over the last years, and many interesting applications of cantilever sensors have been suggested. In order to enhance the chances to transform cutting-edge Swiss science into commercial success further work in the area of market analysis, analysis of competitive technologies and potentially successful business models has to be performed. In module 8 of CTI Project 5956.2 a preliminary market analysis was undertaken and a project report delivered. Since there is a multitude of possible combinations of applications and potentially attractive market segments accessible for the proposed cantilever technology (much higher than guessed initially), the analysis could not yet be carried out in sufficient breadth and depth to guarantee a high chance of commercial success. In order not to jeopardize the initial investment made in the above-mentioned work, we must ask for additional funds for completion. The upcoming international competition in this field puts further pressure upon a timely completion in order not to lose the competitive advantage and to realize a short time to market for products and services.
