FULLMOS: Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Carbon Fullerenes and Nanotubes and their Composites – New Team of Competence

Abstract

The goal of this feasibility study is to form a core team of competence and investigate the capability to research and develop physical models and numerical methods for the simulation of composite materials, where the reinforcement of the matrices are carbon fullerenes and nanotubes. For this purpose, several R&D techniques will be taken into account. Among them, particular attention will be devoted to molecular dynamics simulations (classical and ab initio) and global optimization which will be combined to investigate the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of these innovative materials.
The main area ”Innovation & Technology” of SUPSI and the CSCS Research connect their own competences and joint efforts to stimulate and support industrial exploitation of advanced material technologies in Southern Switzerland.
