Chiroptical Molecular Dipole Switch
Abstract
We plan to build and test a chiroptical dipole switch device based on a novel class of organic material witches. These molecular switches, named Chiropticenes, exist in two bi-stable nonsuperimposable mirror-image forms that are photochemically interconvertable (photo-enantiomerisation) by the influence of light and electric field. Although that the feasibility of Chiropticenes has been already demonstrated by synthesising an only-optical activated switch, we want to repeat the bulk switch experiments in the frame of he feasibility study proposed here. If successful, we plan to conduct a research project together with our industrial partners, CALMEC Corp. with the goal of building a test device in which after two-dimensional assembly, the Chiropticene molecules are manipulated by light and electrical field.
