TiO2 Nano-clusters attachment on Textiles of CILANDER AG Inducing Self-Cleaning and Antibacterial Effects
Abstract
This projects aims at the stable attachment of titania nanoclusters of different sizes, surface area and crystalographic composition on cotton textiles of CILANDER AG with the intention of introducing self-cleaning effect in the first place and antibacterial properties in the second place. The effect of the titania on the cotton surface will be tested under low intensity light irradiation a) solar irradiation and b) white light coming from a room Ne-light. Spacer molecules should enable by chemical methods to attach the titania to the alcoholic-OH of the cotton that are still available after some steps during the textile manufacture. The titania bound to the cotton textile will be evaluated in their self-cleaning effect in the case of spots due to transpiration grease, wine, make-up and coffee up to 20 washings. The anti-bacterial effects of the titania on the cotton textiles against E Coli K-12 and Staphylococus aureaus will also be tested.
