Innovative, scratch-proof nanocomposites for clear coatings
Abstract
The incorporation of inorganic nanoscale particles in an organic matrix is of interest in many applications [1]. Specific combinations of properties in coatings, such as transparency and wear resistance, are obtained by using nanoparticles. It would be desirable, especially for high-grade transparent lacquer applications, to provide lacquer binders with nanoparticles such that, at constant transparency and gloss, an improvement in scratch resistance is obtained.
It is an objective of the proposed project to formulate scratch resistance, light transparent nano lacquers with solids loading of nanoparticles up to 35 vol.%.
