Carbon Nanotube Composites

Abstract

The present project aims at developing composite materials, in which the reinforcements are carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and the matrices aluminum or magnesium alloys or organic polymers. Because of the very high Young modulus of the CNTs associated with their high flexibility, the nano-structured composites could exhibit excellent elastic and anelastic properties. Applications of such materials may be found in microtechnics and space industry, where components of high rigidity associated with a high internal damping are needed. Moreover, because of their good hydrogen adsorption ability, CNTs associated with magnesium can be interesting materials for hydrogen storage.
