OGIRI – Optical Glue with Increased Refractive Index

Abstract

Adhesive bonding of two or more glass components is a key step in manufacturing of optical instruments. Optical glue that is commercially available with a typical refractive index range between n = 1.46 and 1.58, and has to meet high optical requirements (high transmission and low scattering), is not suitable for adhesive bonding of high refractive index glass (n 1.60). In order to minimize unwanted reflection and scattering losses at the glue/glass interface, the feasibility of refractive index matching using a nanoparticle hybrid material as glue will be investigated within the frame of the OGIRI project.
